TVET Center for Professional Training Research and Innovation (TCPTRI)
Overview
The TVET Center for Professional Training Research and Innovation (TCPTRI) is the newest tertiary component of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI). It is established to offer pedagogical training for TVET teachers(pre-service and in-service). Currently managed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) Youth Rising Project, the TCPTRI has begun its training functions, recruiting TVET teachers nationwide. The first cohort is nearing the completion of its training with the Teaching Practice Module, while the second cohort, also comprising thirty TVET teachers, is about to finish its face-to-face training phase.
Eight (8) Instructors from BWI lead the training at the TCPTRI, supported by two TVET Directors from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The center operates in the renovated and equipped former Basic Metal Training Building (BMT) and includes a main training hall, a computer room, and a mechanical training room, all equipped with modern state-of-the-art equipment. Additional facilities include: offices, supportive rooms, and lavatories.
TCPTRI is established to equip TVET teachers with essential pedagogical knowledge for nation-building tasks and will eventually be handed over to BWI’s Administration. BWI will then appoint a management team to oversee and conduct the training activities at the center. The TCPTRI recruits trainees from all counties, using a five-module curriculum to introduce contemporary TVET pedagogical techniques.
