Governance & Accreditation
BWI’s Legal Status and Recognition
The Booker Washington Institute (BWI) operates under the governance structure established by the Legislative Act of June 20, 1977, which legally incorporated the Institute and granted it a charter. This act designates BWI as a vocational institute providing secondary education, thus ensuring its recognition and accreditation in this educational domain. Governed by a Board of Governors, the Institute is managed and controlled with perpetual succession of its members, ensuring continuous and stable leadership. The Board, endowed with comprehensive authority, oversees the strategic direction, operational management, and compliance with the Institute’s charter. As a legal and corporate body with perpetual succession, B.W.I. functions independently under the legal framework provided by the legislative act, which serves as the foundational document affirming its educational mandate and operational legitimacy.
