The Board of Governors of Booker Washington Institute is a group of distinguished and versatile individuals dedicated to the continued development and improvement of the institution. This select group acts as ambassadors for the Booker Washington Institute, supporting and advising the Principal & Executive Officer in achieving the institute’s mission and vision. Although the Board of Governors does not possess any legal jurisdiction over the institution, their advisory and supportive roles are critical to its progress. The board members are recommended by the Principal & Executive Officer and other board members, ensuring a cohesive and committed team.

Vice Principal for Administration (VPA)

Led by the Vice Principal for Administration (VPA), this department handles all administrative matters in collaboration with the Principal and the Executive Officer. Its responsibilities span the approval of official requests, purchase orders, warehouse requisitions, and other key documents. The department oversees several vital units and sections, including the Procurement Unit, Technical Services Unit, Warehouse Unit, Motor Pool Unit, Facility Management Section, BWI Monrovia Office, Human Resource Section, and Protective Guard Section. Additionally, the Administration Department manages infrastructure rehabilitation, construction activities, and the electrical and mechanical maintenance of vehicles and generators, playing a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the institute’s physical and operational infrastructure.

Regular advisement to the principal on construction, maintenance works, and other administrative matters ensures that the institute can respond swiftly to challenges and opportunities, thereby facilitating sustained growth and development.

Vice Principal for Instruction (VPI)

The Office of the Vice Principal for Instruction (VPI) at Booker Washington Institute (BWI) leads the Department of Instruction, ensuring the effective planning, implementation, supervision, and monitoring of instructional activities. The VPI, supported by an Academic Coordinator, eight Associate Coordinators, and heads of various sections, orchestrates the educational strategy of BWI. This includes coordinating with training partners for collaborative initiatives, designing new programs, and maintaining the Institute’s affiliations with external educational bodies like the University of Liberia. The office also oversees the TVET Center for Professional Training Research and Innovation (TCPTRI), enhancing BWI’s capacity to deliver comprehensive human resource development.

The Department for Student Services at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) is led by the Vice Principal for Student Services (VPSS) and is dedicated to promoting the academic and social potential of all students. This department is committed to appreciating each student’s cultural, linguistic, and intellectual diversity. By providing comprehensive programs and services, it aims to support students’ academic and social needs throughout their school journey and prepare them for life after school. The department consists of six functional sections: Dean Section, Chapel Service, Clinic, Sports Section, Guidance Counseling, and Cafeteria. Each section plays a vital role in ensuring students’ welfare, spiritual development, health, physical growth, emotional stability, and nutritional needs. Additionally, a Student Services Officer supervises social activities and fosters student talent in various arts and natural skills. Collectively, these efforts create a conducive atmosphere and provide the necessary resources to assist students in overcoming barriers to success, ultimately impacting BWI’s growth and development positively.

The Booker Washington Institute (BWI) Business and Finance Department serves as the cornerstone of the institution’s financial stability and growth. Headed by the Business Manager/Comptroller, this department is dedicated to delivering exceptional financial support services that underpin the operational needs of the Institute. By adhering to a comprehensive framework that includes the BWI Financial Policy Manual, Government of Liberia Public Financial Management Laws, Public Procurement and Concession (PPC) Act and Regulations, and relevant agreements with development partners, the department ensures strict compliance and fiscal responsibility. Over the past decade, the department has evolved significantly, transitioning from traditional roles of managing payroll, income, and expenses to leveraging economic analysis for informed business decision-making. This transformation includes the digitalization of services, enhancing efficiency and service delivery within the institution.

The Post-Secondary and Professional Programs (PSPP) Department at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI), led by the General Coordinator, oversees the National Diploma Program, Associate Degree Programs, and various short-term professional training courses including Heavy Duty Equipment Operation, Computer Literacy, and Domestic Science Short-term Skills Training, which encompasses Catering Management, Hotel & Restaurant Management, and Tailoring & Decoration. The department is dedicated to continuously enhancing these programs by integrating core competency, supportive, and general courses to ensure that trainees are well-prepared for their careers while gaining additional advantages. The department’s pivotal role in BWI’s transition to a degree-granting tertiary institution in partnership with the University of Liberia marks a significant milestone, expanding BWI’s educational offerings and opening new opportunities for higher education in various fields.
